Teena began her professional textile life as a museum conservator, having graduated with an M.Sc. in Textile Conservation from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. To fully understand the inertia and life naturally existing within a textile, she began to focus on spinning and weaving. She also felt that, to conserve well, she also needed to understand natural dyes. Later, she became interested in the meaningfulness of the making of culturally relevant textiles within communities and acquired a related Ph.D. at The Ohio State University. She was a full professor at The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, where she taught all manner of courses related to textiles. Having retired six years ago, she has happily returned to the adventure of making, something she was only able to do in her head for the last many years!
