Black Bird Huipile – Guatemala

Description

This unusual huipile is made of either pearled cotton or rayon features birds in blue around the square neckline and at the sleeves with small diamonds scattered on the rest of the piece. Set of against black it is very striking. It is generous in size and very comfortable to wear. This huipile is 38″ wide (64″ bust and waist) x 32″ high. It was bought years ago in a WARP auction and is believed to be from Guatemalan but perhaps it was handmade by a non Guatemalan textile lover? It is very different from most huipiles and quite beautiful.
