Description

This unusual piece is made by the Hanung Jonnom, family business, in Arunachal Pradesh. It is solid black at the top with the lower part being red. These parts are divided by an accent strip woven into the design as well as accenting the lower part of the opening and bottom. The back in a bit narrower than typical vests in the shoulders and has beautiful accent designs in the upper part.  It is made of cotton in India, is new and measures 28″ in length and the chest in the front is 21″ wide. This would be worn open.

Hanung’s family make the traditional baskets and clothing of this region and ethnic group of India, in Arunachal Pradesh. His father makes baskets of rattan and bamboo, and his mother the cotton textiles and clothing, lotus silk scarves and fabric. Hanung, or by his nickname, Ntony, studied engineering but made a conscientious decision to return to his small village instead of a life in Delhi, to follow his passion of raising awareness of the cultural art traditions of Aunchal Pradesh and keep them alive.
