Faso Dan Fani Throw Blanket- Burkino Faso

Winning Bid: $80.00

Donated by Baskets of Africa

Item condition: New

This handsome indigo striped textile was donated by Baskets of Africa. In the central western portion of Burkina Faso is the village of Safané, the Marka people weave this fascinating cloth by hand. The cloth is woven of cotton and dyed with indigo color to produce simple designs which carry great significance to the local people. The most popular pattern means “the honor of my mother is never finished” (basically, “I love you, mom”), and is commonly given from a mother to her daughter.  This piece measures 42″ wide x 62″ long, is hemmed, and would work well as a throw or beach blanket or could be made into other beautiful items for your home.

About Baskets of Africa:

Baskets of Africa was founded in 2002. Cael Chappell started working in African Art and Crafts in 1991 and fell in love with the incredible artistry and creativity of African basket weavers. This led to the creation of Baskets of Africa in order to focus attention on these amazing weavers and their work. He has been dedicated to the principles of Fair Trade throughout his career in Africa, so when he started Baskets of Africa, joining the Fair Trade Federation in 2003 was a natural fit.
