Handpainted Fabric of a Herero Woman – Botswana

NFS

Description

This portrait of a Herero woman was painted in Botswana. The Herero people originated in Namibia and took on the style of dress of the German settlers. Their dresses have multitudes of petticoats underneath. The head piece probably was not part of the settlers garb, but added by the Herero to help them carry things on their heads. A lot of Herero’s later settled in the northwestern part of Botwana. This colorful piece could be made into a wall hanging, cushion , or anything your creative mind comes up with. It measures 2″ wide x 29″ wide. The edges are unfinished.
