Donated by Hanung Jonnom, this very textured shawl was made from a natural heavy cotton handspun yarn that fluffs up when in the sun. One side is textured while the other is smooth. It was made by a Hanung’s mother of the Adi tribe in the eastern Himalayas of India.  It can be used as throw or shawl and measures 44″ wide by 84″ long. It tends to be a bit stiff.

About Hanung (Anthony) Jonnom:

Hanung’s family make the traditional baskets and clothing of this region and ethnic group of India, in Arunachal Pradesh. His father makes baskets of rattan and bamboo, and his mother the cotton textiles and clothing, lotus silk scarves and fabric. Hanung, or by his nickname, Ntony, studied engineering but made a conscientious decision to return to his small village instead of a life in Delhi, to follow his passion of raising awareness of the cultural art traditions of Aunchal Pradesh and keep them alive.
