Description

This unique handmade tribal art necklace donated by Kinship Stories comprises a variety of cultures and carries, between its beads & threads, historical evidence of a world on the verge of extinction. In a world of technology, globalization, and consumerism, the necklace stands as a call for authenticity, uniqueness, distinction and culture. It is for you, the woman who can communicate the kinship stories, our ancestor’s stories, but also the woman who appreciates beauty and cherishes her originality. The necklace is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece, just like you.

Beirut- born, Yasmine Dabbous is the maker of this lovely necklace. It is made with a collage of  vintage materials that served a variety of purposes (e.g. metal coin, tassels which were part of a wall hanging) and collected from various countries such as Turkey, Iran, Ghana, India and Turkmenistan. In addition to these materials they include hand printed fabric, embroidered fabric, glass beads, and recycled glass beads. The makers of the materials, despite their immeasurable talents, are unknown. The necklace is in several hues of blue with some pink, green, red and black and measures 19″ from the top of the necklace tot he bottom of the tassels. .

About Kinship Stories:

Kinship Stories is a culture and art project featuring a line of precious tribal adornments.

Our one-of-a-kind pieces include vintage and antique materials, often of museum quality. We also experiment with fusions of old and new, adding our own handmade work to the mix.

Kinship Stories is committed to supporting local artisanship and fostering intercultural understanding of otherness.

The concept was developed by Beirut-born Yasmine Dabbous. A culture and media expert, Dabbous has a PhD in Journalism Studies, with a research focus on cultural studies and cultural history. Passionate about everything tribal, Dabbous conceives her lines as stories about the people, their beliefs and the skills they inherited from one generation to another. She hand-picks materials during her many travels across continents and cultures.

Certificates detailing these stories are provided with every purchase.
