Natural Dye Wool Tablerunner – Mexico
NFS
Donated by WARP grant recipients, the women of X-Chilul Pak
Description
This earth toned runner is made of a very soft wool with soft colored brocade work at either end. It also makes a wonderful shawl or scarf! The wool yarn was spun on a “winch” and naturally dyed with moitle, brazil sticks, pericon, cochineal, and indigo. This piece measures 76″ long x 19″ wide and was beautifully woven on a backstrap loom by Patricia Guzman Ruiz. Patricia is part of a group of textile artists called X-Chilul pak’ in San Juan Cancuc, a Mayan Tseltal community in the highlands of Chiapas. The 40 women themselves plant cotton, shear their own sheep, spin the wool and cotton, and dye with natural dyes.
