Nuno Felted Silk Scarf – Kyrgyzstan

Winning Bid: $50.00

Donated by E.Y.H.O. Tours

Item condition: New

This Kyrgyz Nuno Felted Silk Scarf was donated by E.Y.H.O. Tours. Kyrgyz artisan, Aidai Asangulova, felted 100% natural wool in an abstract design into this lovely earth brown woven silk scarf. It measures 22.5” wide x 65” long and makes a gorgeous accessory.

The Kyrgyz people, representing the ancient nomadic civilization of Central Asia, manufactured felt now recognized as a pre-textile, from time immemorial and utilized it in all aspects of their lives. In nomadic yurts, sturdy felted textiles line the floor and walls. They can be easily rolled up and transported on a camel as the nomads move. A contemporary take is nuno felting that fuses wool to silk to create an appealing scrunched look.
