This intricate handwoven sash from East Sumba, Indonesia is a very unique textile! The pahikung technique is a weaving method used to create intricate geometric and zoomorphic designs on textiles in Indonesia. The technique is performed on horizontal back tension looms and uses supplementary warps to create the designs. The island of Sumba in eastern Indonesia is known for its pahikung textiles, which are some of the finest in Southeast Asia. This sash measures 6″ wide X 54″ long with an added twisted fringe on each end.
