This square vase made by Daniel Johnston is made from locally sourced clay from his home in Seagrove NC. Seagrove is know for its rich history in pottery. The clay from the historical town in rural NC has attracted potters from around the world for centuries. Daniel fires his large vessels in a traditional wood kiln. His kiln holds over 1,000 pots and is based on 14th century Thai kilns. Daniel spent his formative years as an apprentice in Thailand and England. This vessel was designed and made in the spring of 2022 during the production of his latest exhibition which is currently on view in Santa Fe, New Mexico at Gerald Peters Contemporary. The installation is in the company of Georgia O’Keeffe, Chuck Close, and Jackson Pollock.
