Meet a Member: Fireside Chat with Christine Eber
December 10, 2025
Join WARP for our December Fireside Chat with Christine Eber! During our monthly Meet a Member program, we get to know a different WARP member each month.
Christine Eber has been a WARP member for ten years. She was first drawn to textiles through her maternal grandmother’s and her Swedish relatives’ weavings and embroideries. While conducting research in Chiapas, Mexico in the 1980s she came to know Tzotzil-Maya weavers involved in collectives there. Since then, her involvement with fabric arts has been in her role as coordinator of Weaving for Justice, an all-volunteer organization based in Las Cruces, New Mexico which assists collectives in Chiapas to sell their woven and embroidered textiles in the U.S. through fair trade markets. Since retiring from teaching Anthropology at New Mexico State University in 2011, Christine has been involved in following migration from Chiapas to the U.S. and in volunteering to assist refugees and asylum seekers on the U.S./Mexico border. She also writes poetry and novels to share the hopes and struggles of Tzotzil women and their families.Â
