Meet a Member: Fireside Chat with Timothy Hale
November 12, 2025
Join WARP for our November Fireside Chat with Timothy Hale! During our monthly Meet a Member program, we get to know a different WARP member each month.
Timothy Hale is an American loom designer and builder. After earning degrees in economics and accounting in 2008, Tim shifted his focus to creating yarn tools—a journey sparked by a chance encounter with Deborah Chandler’s Beginning 4-Harness Weaving DVD. That introduction to weaving quickly grew into a passion that has shaped his work ever since.
From his Cincinnati, Ohio studio—where he has collaborated with a rotating cast of helpers since 2012—Tim has designed a wide range of tools to make the fiber arts more enjoyable and accessible.
In 2022, he reconnected with Deborah when she posted a video of a CNC machine weaving a huipil. Drawn to the intersection of design, technology, and economics, Tim reached out, and Deborah introduced him to WARP. Since then, he has attended two Gatherings: one at Kent State with his wife, Cynthia, and daughters, Norah and Alice, and another in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with “the popcorn lady” Alice.
Earlier this year, Deborah once again played a pivotal role, offering feedback on a shuttle design Tim was developing. That exchange sparked new ideas for packaging concepts that not only deliver fun and functional weaving tools but also help highlight the important work WARP is doing.
Surf Shuttles are now available at: FiberArtistSupply.com
