Description

Traditionally used for serving food, Rwenzori baskets have a smooth surface and feature bold, geometric designs. These beautiful baskets come from a group of women weaving in Southern Uganda. They are created using tightly woven millet grass stalks and naturally dyed raffia palm leaves. The Rwenzori mountains in the weavers’ area seem a bit out of place in Africa with their snow and glacier covered peaks of close to 17,000 feet, but some say they are the inspiration for the zig zag designs on the baskets. The artist for this basket is unnamed because communal groups deliver the baskets without individual names.

Dimensions: 12.25” X 8”
