Our annual meeting is coming very soon and it’s time to elect our new board members!
Right now WARP has 9 board members, each one of them can serve for a 3 year period that can be renewed once. So every member can serve a total of 3 or 6 years.
Our current board members are:
Hedy Hollyfield, Rocío Mena, Cheryl Musch, Cael Chappell, Maren Beck, Deborah Chandler, Beth Davis, Elena Laswick, Diane Manning.
Hedy (our current co-chair) and Cheryl (our current treasurer) are renewing their terms, so they will stay for another 3 years.
Elena Laswick and Cael Chappel (secretary) are leaving after 3 great years of service. We really want to thank them for all their hard work and dedication. We will definitely miss you!!!
These are our nominees for new board members this year:
Liz Gipson is a weaver, writer, and educator based in New Mexico. With an educational background in community development and fiber arts, Liz started her career in nonprofits and moved into publishing in all the ways that content reaches weavers.
Ten years ago, she launched Yarnworker.com as a space to support rigid-heddle loom enthusiasts. She has written four books about rigid-heddle weaving and is working on a fifth. She teaches at her local University and online at the Yarnworker School.
Liz has been a member of WARP since 1996 and served the organization in various capacities, but has yet to serve on the board. She fully supports its goals to boost the signal for culturally-based, continuous textile traditions globally and locally and create connections among individuals and organizations who feel the same.
“Weaving is a constant, evolving force in human history. Seminal North American weavers credit their trips to South America with igniting their own weaving interest. Mary Atwater traveled to Peru and other neighboring countries as did Anni Albers and Sheila Hicks. Seeing intact Andean weaving cultures, artwork, and architecture produced a fire in their brains to pursue their own weaving careers. As a weaver I owe a great deal of debt to cultures with continuous textile traditions. I personally value the resistance to appropriate these traditions, rather value and support them. WARP honors these traditions by fostering cross-cultural connections, making visible local cultural-based economies of scale with unbroken weaving traditions, and supporting economic growth in line with weavers’ stated needs to pursue their vocation and support their families.”
Chad Troyer is an interdisciplinary artist working in textiles, specifically weaving and dyeing. They graduated from Kent State University in 2022, receiving a BFA in Sculpture and Expanded Media, in addition to a BA in French. Born in Ohio, Chad has spent most of their life in Northeast Ohio, and formerly working at Praxis Fiber Workshop. There, Chad taught beginner weavers, as well as work in Praxis’ Digital Weaving Residency. Chad will be moving to Lexington, Kentucky to further their education and career at the University of Kentucky this upcoming fall. Chad was a scholarship recipient in 2023, joining WARP that year. Nuevos miembros de la junta directiva

La reunion anual esta cerca y llegó la hora de escoger a los nuevos miembros de la junta directiva.
Por ahora, WARP cuenta con 9 miembros en su junta directiva. Cada uno de ellos sirve por un periodo de 3 años, que se puede renovar una vez. Lo que quiere decir que cada miembro puede servir por un total de 3 o 6 años.
Estos son los miembros que están en nuestra junta directiva actualmente:

Elena Laswick y Cael Chappel (secretario) se van después de 3 años de gran servicio. Realmente les queremos agradecer por todo su trabajo duro y dedicación ¡Definitivamente los vamos a extrañar!
Estos son nuestros nuevos nominados para la junta directiva:
Liz Gipson es una tejedora, escritora y educadora que vive en Nuevo México. Con formación académica en desarrollo comunitario y artes textiles, Liz comenzó su carrera en organizaciones sin fines de lucro y pasó a publicar en todas las formas en que el contenido llega a los tejedores.
Hace diez años, lanzó Yarnworker.com como un espacio para apoyar a los entusiastas del telar de lizos rígidos. Ha escrito cuatro libros sobre tejido de lizos rígidos y está trabajando en un quinto. Enseña en su universidad local y en línea en Yarnworker School.
Liz ha sido miembro de WARP desde 1996 y sirvió en la organización en diversas capacidades, pero aún no ha formado parte de la junta directiva. Ella apoya plenamente sus objetivos de impulsar las tradiciones textiles y culturales a nivel mundial y local para crear conexiones entre personas y organizaciones que sienten lo mismo.
“El tejido es una fuerza constante y en evolución en la historia de la humanidad. Los tejedores norteamericanos atribuyen a sus viajes a Sudamérica el despertar de su propio interés en el tejido. Mary Atwater viajó a Perú y otros países vecinos al igual que Anni Albers y Sheila Hicks. Ver el tejido andino intacto en las culturas, las obras de arte y la arquitectura produjeron un fuego en sus cerebros para seguir sus propias carreras de tejido. Como tejedora, tengo una gran deuda con las culturas con tradiciones textiles continuas. Personalmente, valoro la resistencia a apropiarme de estas tradiciones, más bien las valoro y las apoyo. WARP honra estas tradiciones fomentando conexiones interculturales, haciendo visibles las economías de escala locales basadas en la cultura con tradiciones de tejido ininterrumpidas y apoyando el crecimiento económico en línea con las necesidades declaradas de los tejedores para perseguir su vocación y apoyar a sus familias”.

Nacido en Ohio, Chad ha pasado la mayor parte de su vida en el noreste de Ohio y anteriormente trabajó en Praxis Fiber Workshop.
