Striped Ch’uspa Bag – Bolivia
NFS
Category: Online Auction 2023 Tags: Handwoven, Personal Accessories, South America, Wool
Description
A ch’uspa, traditionally used to carry coca leaves, makes for a great shoulder purse. This handwoven bag from PAZA, a project WARP member Dorinda Dutcher works with, was made in the rural highlands of Bolivia using traditional methods and all-natural plant and insect dyes. When woven, the shuttle passes unobstructed through the solid stripes, but must stop for each of the three stripes with vertical pickup designs. The body of the bag is about 11″ wide x 12″ high, and it has a 40″ strap. This bag has been used and loved. It is in sturdy condition, but does have some frayed threads.
