Description
This dress was woven in four panels, each by a different Q’eqchi’ weaver, using thread naturally dyed by another group of Tz’utujil dyers near Lake Atitlán. The colors are an innovation, as traditional pikbil textiles are white on white. The designs are woven into the gauzy ground cloth with a fine inlay, both woven of lightweight cotton, and the panels are hand-stitched together to complete the creation. It is an exercise in combining tradition and innovation, and the women are curious to hear what people think.
Dimensions: 36” long X 29” wide with 5” fringe
