Description

This beautiful fabric is used by Guatemalan women in their traditional dress called traje. They wrap it around their waist over the bottom of their huipil and then wrap a long belt several times around that. Each part of their traje is a work of art. This piece was probably woven in Salcajá, near Quetzaltenango and is made up of both simple and complex ikat and nice embroidery called randa to connect the 2 panels.  It would be beautiful repurposed or used as a table cloth or a light throw blanket.  Donated by a member of the Harmony Weavers Guild, it measures 41″ wide x 86″ long
