Description

This is a vintage Blue Hmong batik shoulder decoration, which was placed across the back shoulder of a woman’s jacket. The longer ends wrapped around the sleeves so the design could also be seen from the front. When a woman no longer needs her jacket, she removes the batik section. These are often purchased to be upcycled into pillows or wall decorations, but, in this condition it could also be appliquéd onto a shirt or jacket to create a beautifully decorated garment. The piece is wax resist batik, indigo dyed, appliquéd, and embroidered.  When unfolded, it is 42” wide with 15” pieces that wrap.
