Description

To wear this stunning red and black Katu Tribe Bead Woven Scarf from Mekong River Textiles is an empowering experience. Not a scarf wearer? It can also be a gorgeous table accent. Woven on backstrap loom, the weft threads with beads are carried as supplementary threads to create intricate designs. Textiles with beads woven in are part of the traditional dress of the Katu. The Katu tribe lives along the Mekong River in Savannakhet in southern Laos.  A flood devastated the area in 2018 and took many lives, an event that changed the lives of two sisters from that area.  Having lost their parents and older brother, they knew they must find a way to survive. They opened a studio and are now thriving while supporting the village and family left behind. This red and black scarf is one of their pieces and measures 11” wide x 64″ long.
