Description

This stunning 100% cotton  handwoven Guatemalan ikat (jaspe)-dyed fabric has a contemporary vibe although the kimono style is timeless and ageless. It is thigh length, long-sleeved and unlined masterfully constructed of one continuous piece from front hems to back hem. Each side seam has a roomy pocket. The primary colors are black, white and cinnamon brown. There is a small inset of Malian mud cloth at the front closure adorned with 2 bone buttons. The hems of coat and sleeves are encased in a slightly contrasting handwoven cloth, which also borders the 5″ wide piece extending from left front hem around the collar to right front hem forming a roll type collar.
Measurements:

The length from neck (not including collar) to back hem is 35″ long.  It’s a jacket for a tall person and a coat for a smaller person.

The back from left side seam where sleeve is attached to right side seam where sleeve is attached is 30″.
Sleeve width: tapers from 24″circumference at shoulder to 14″ circumference at wrist.
Sleeve length: 17″ from shoulder inset seam to hem. Can easily be rolled up (as model did).
Front: each side is 17 ½” wide.  The added trim piece accounts for the additional width from the back.
It’s gently worn and says it is M/L but is a one size fits most garment. The sleeves are easy to roll up. The donor believes an American woman designed it and had it woven and constructed in Guatemala.
