We can pretty well surmise that, in general, WARP members are readers. But do you realize how many are also writers?
When I first came back onto the board in May of 2021, one of my simple ideas went something like this: Hey, wouldn’t it be cool to have a list of books written by WARP members on the website? That would give WARP authors some good publicity, and WARP members (and others) an interesting list of reading material to consider. I think in my oh-so-naïve mind I envisioned something like a page of a yellow pad with a list of a couple dozen books that would be easy to gather and post on the website. Not a big project, just a kind of fun thing. Hah. I had a vague suspicion, even some knowledge, as to WARP members’ literary offerings, but as it turned out I was underestimating by a LOT!
I just re-read the WARP blog from a year ago, at which point 15 members had sent us their book lists. We were excited then! More than a year later we now have a really impressive page of WARP Member Publications that includes books, chapters in books, articles, films, videos, and more, over 250 entries in total. While we invited members to submit anything they had written, most opted to only send in textile related efforts of various kinds, a mix of how-to, international development projects, and anthropology-inspired publications.
The pages are all sortable, so you can search by author, subject, titles, and other categories. It may not be the most sophisticated layout ever, but it is way ahead of the yellow pad list I had in mind.
So here are some examples to tempt you to go exploring:
- Peru – 10 entries
- Navajo – 37 entries
- Knitting – 9 entries
- Weaving – 88 entries
- Ann Hedlund – 38 alone, more with co-authors
- Documentary Films – 4 entries (but other titles got listed under video, DVD and other categories)
We still have a few bugs to work out, and if you notice any please tell us. But we are very pleased with how it looks so far, and believe it will be a really useful tool for researchers interested in the things WARP members are interested in.
Being ON the list is limited to WARP members, but access TO the list is open to all. We hope this will be a good resource, so please, spread the word to your circle of friends and colleagues. But only after you have checked it out yourself!

Podríamos suponer que en general los miembros de WARP son buenos lectores. ¿Pero te has dado cuenta de cuántos son también escritores?
Cuando regresé por primera vez a la junta de WARP en mayo del 2021, una de mis ideas simples fue algo así: Oye, ¿no sería genial tener una lista de libros escritos por miembros de WARP en el sitio web? Eso le daría a los autores de WARP buena publicidad, y a los miembros de WARP (y otros) una lista interesante de material de lectura para considerar. Creo que en mi mente ingenua, imaginé algo así como una página de un block amarillo, con una lista de un par de docenas de libros que serían fáciles de recopilar y publicar en el sitio web. No me imaginé un gran proyecto, solo algo divertido. Ja. Tenía una vaga sospecha, incluso algo de conocimiento, en cuanto a las ofertas literarias de los miembros de WARP, ¡pero resultó que lo estaba subestimando por MUCHO!
Acabo de volver a leer el blog de WARP de hace un año, momento en el que 15 miembros nos enviaron sus listas de libros. ¡Entonces estábamos emocionados! Y ahora, más de un año después, tenemos una página realmente impresionante con todas las publicaciones de los miembros de WARP que incluye libros, capítulos de libros, artículos, películas, videos , etc. Son más de 250 entradas en total.
Si bien invitamos a los miembros a enviar todo lo que habían escrito, la mayoría optó por enviar solo sus publicaciones relacionadas con textiles, una combinación de proyectos de desarrollo internacional y publicaciones inspiradas en la antropología.
Todas las páginas están ordenadas, por lo que puede buscar por autor, tema, títulos y otras categorías. Puede que no sea el diseño más sofisticado de la historia, pero está muy por delante de la lista block amarillo que tenía en mi mente al principio.
