Mekeka Designs is a bespoke design studio based in the USA and Uganda. We partner with artists, tradition bearers, and textile experts to create innovative approaches to fabrics from nature. Mekeka Designs embodies a curiosity about materials, respect for Ugandan cultural arts, and drive to innovate with fascinating fabrics and traditional textile processes. Our studio works under the guidance and leadership of our founding partners -Lesli Robertson, Fred Mutebi, Josephine Mukasa, Pamela Kyagera, and Grace Kirabo. Together, we create a range of bespoke home goods and accessories, including pillows, rugs, throws, and table linens. We also work with private clients on custom interior design projects. Mekeka Designs specializes in the design and application of heritage techniques and fibers from Uganda, including barkcloth, loom wovens, and plaited palm leaf textiles. Each piece is made through the sustainable harvesting of indigenous mutuba, raffia, banana, and enkindukindu materials by master artisans.
