While WARP Gatherings are a lot about learning, we also plan in some serious fun, both textile and non-textile related. This year we are taking that a step further. We have three field trips scheduled for Field Trip Friday, AND some ideas for designing your own adventures that day, AND a great list of things you can do to explore SE Ontario before or after the Gathering. It is a perfect year to bring your family, as there are plenty of places for them to “play” while WARP members are immersed in the textile events they came for. Read on, open links, and see what possibilities appeal to you. Please note that all of our official field trips this year have a space limit of 20 or 22 participants, so if you have a strong preference for any of them, please sign up early.

I – A Textile Museum Lover’s Day in Toronto
Come and tour two (or three!) of Canada’s most inspiring textile destinations:
Spend the day exploring global textile traditions, historic garments, and contemporary fibre art.
Your tour fee includes:
- Round-trip coach transportation
- campus to museums and back
- Admission to the ROM and the TMC
Not included:
- Admission to the Bata Shoe Museum ($12–16)
- Lunch in a local eatery
- Museum shopping
II – A Rural Fibre Tour
Spend a day immersed in local fibre production with a guided rural tour featuring three unique farm stops:
- Wellington Fibres – Visit a working mohair goat farm and on-site fibre processing mill. See how fleece becomes finished yarn.
- Revolution Wool Company – Tour a commercial sheep operation and learn about large-scale wool production from pasture to processing.
- Harmony Meadows Alpaca – Meet the alpacas up close and discover the qualities that make alpaca fibre so prized.
We’ll strengthen ourselves mid-day with lunch at a local Mennonite restaurant, making this a true countryside experience. It’s a rare opportunity to connect directly with the animals, farmers, and fibre makers behind the materials we love. (Lunch cost not included.)
III – Getting Away from it All – A Day Trip to Niagara Falls
Prefer waterfalls to textiles (just for a day)? Join us for a relaxed coach trip to world-famous Niagara Falls. You’ll be coming to the Canadian side, which by all accounts has the best views of the three waterfalls – Horseshoe, American, and Bridal Veil. Included first thing is a boat ride that promises you will get wet, so take your passport in a sealed sandwich bag. Lunch and additional attractions of every description are self-guided and at your own expense, and you’ll climb back on the bus at day’s end tired but content.
It’s an easy, social, and scenic getaway — perfect for anyone who simply wants a beautiful day out.
And in case all that is not enough…
Those three Field Trip options are especially planned for Field Trip Friday. But for anyone coming early, staying late, or wanting to make up their own Field Trip on that Friday, options abound. Our Canadian team of Mary-Anne Dalkowski, Marie-France Gosselin, and Teena Jennings deserve great thanks for contributing ideas to attract anyone and everyone interested in local culture and cuisine.

Es un año perfecto para traer a tu familia, ya que hay muchos lugares donde pueden divertirse, mientras los miembros de WARP se sumergen en los eventos textiles que los convocan.

I – Un Día para los Amantes de los Museos Textiles en Toronto
Ven a recorrer dos (¡o tres!) de los destinos textiles más inspiradores de Canadá:
Pasa el día explorando tradiciones textiles globales, vestimentas históricas y arte contemporáneo en fibra.
Tu tarifa incluye

III – Escapando de Todo – Excursión a las Cataratas del Niágara
¿Prefieres cascadas en lugar de textiles (aunque sea solo por un día)? Únete a nosotros en un relajado viaje en autobús a las mundialmente famosas Niagara Falls.
Visitarás el lado canadiense, que según muchos ofrece las mejores vistas de las tres cataratas: Horseshoe Falls, American Falls y Bridal Veil Falls.
A primera hora está incluido un paseo en barco que promete que te mojarás, así que lleva tu pasaporte dentro de una bolsa hermética. El almuerzo y las atracciones adicionales de todo tipo serán **autoguiados y por cuenta propia**. Al final del día volverás a subir al autobús para el viaje de regreso a Guelph.
