Scholarships & Assistantships
WARP has two programs which provide funding to cover the cost of attending our Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting is a valuable opportunity to learn and network , and we are committed to making this accessible by providing financial assistance. Please read about our Scholarships & Assistantships below, with details about how to apply for these awards.
Alice Brown Memorial Scholarships
The Alice Brown Memorial Scholarship assists applicants ages 18-35 to attend the WARP Annual Meeting. Preference is given to students or recent graduates, but those pursuing non-traditional career paths related to WARP’s mission are also encouraged to apply.
Alice Brown was a generous WARP member who had the foresight to donate the funds to establish the scholarship. Donations from WARP members now sustain the fund. Those of you who have attended meetings since 2008 know how much these special young people have added to the event.
The ideal applicant will demonstrate, through their past, present and/or intended activities, an interest in supporting global textiles and their makers. The Scholarship covers the cost of conference registration, accommodations and meals during the conference, and travel reimbursement. WARP will provide travel reimbursement of up to $500 for domestic travel and up to $1000 for international travel. At the conference, Scholarship recipients will give a 15-minute powerpoint presentation about their interests and accomplishments.
Applications are now open for 2025 Scholarships. The application deadline is March 16th, 2025.
Gloria Davis Memorial Assistantships
The Gloria Davis Memorial Assistantship offers financial assistance for members to attend WARP’s Annual Meeting. There is no age requirement to qualify for this award. In exchange for financial assistance, recipients help at the Annual Meeting, and are involved in a range of conference activities.
The Gloria Davis Memorial Assistantship Fund began in 2018 thanks to WARP member Susan Davis’s donation of the Gloria Davis Textile Collection. Susan’s friend Gloria Davis was an anthropologist who collected the Indonesian textiles over her lifetime of doing field work. Proceeds from the sale of these textiles established the Assistantship fund, which is now sustained by donations.
This year, the assistantship award will cover registration costs for the Annual Meeting, room and board, and travel expenses (up to $500 for domestic travel and up to $1000 for international travel).
Applications are now open for 2025 Assistantships. The application deadline is March 16th, 2025.
