Bolivian Chuspa

Winning Bid: $66.00

Item condition: New

Description

This traditional chuspa from Bolivia is a beautifully handwoven shoulder bag that embodies the artistry and heritage of Andean weaving. Crafted on a backstrap loom from local fibers and dyed with andean plants and cochineal, it features classic geometric motifs in black and white framed by stripes of mustard, rose, and earthy browns. Once used to carry coca leaves and small personal items, the chuspa remains a symbol of Indigenous identity and daily life in the Andes. Finished with braided edges, pompom accents, and a sturdy woven strap, this piece is both functional and rich in cultural significance — perfect as a wearable textile or collectible artifact. Made by Narciza Cortez. Measures 13″ x 14″.
