Description
Nuno felted wool, silk chiffon, sea sponge, fabric scraps, tussah silk. I created this blouse, along with a matching wrap-around skirt, in a workshop at the Dominia Vale do Mondego in the mountainous protected area of the Serra da Estrela of northeast Portugal. Our group exhibited our creations in the nearby village of Faia, where all the widows still dress in black. We each wore our felted outfits and hung other creations above the ancient outdoor cistern where all the locals do their laundry. We spent the afternoon with the villagers and in the evening marched in a religious procession, still wearing our felted garments.
