Artist: Cecilia Martinez
Guerrero, México and USA
Presented by Artisans Beyond Borders
Cecilia Martinez is an indigenous (Mixtec) backstrap weaver from the highlands of Guerrero, equally skilled in embroidery and needle weaving. Cecilia embroidered her hopes and dreams here on Mexican manta cloth as she waited for months with her family in Nogales, Mexico for the chance to petition for asylum at the border. Legally in the U.S. now, she hopes that the heritage crafts of her people will help to sustain her and her children as she waits for her asylum case to be adjudicated.
Cecilia gratefully accepts embroidery commissions. For enquiries, contact Valarie Lee James at firstname.lastname@example.org.
