Description

This exquisite small blanket from the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco is handwoven from handspun, naturally dyed alpaca yarn. Created by Quechua weavers of Peru, it features a warp-faced plain weave with intricate ikat and pick-up float designs in rich, earthy tones. The textile consists of two backstrap-loomed panels, each with four selvedges, joined by a traditional zigzag embroidery characteristic of Chinchero and finished with a tubular woven border. Measuring approximately 23 x 26.5 inches, this piece is in excellent, unused condition and exemplifies the artistry and precision of Andean textile traditions.
