Description
This 100% cotton backstrap woven brocaded (supplementary weft) huipil, which took four months to weave, includes symbols of the four cardinal points, the double-headed plumed serpent god, mountains, rain, and the God of the Universe holding up the world. Woven in the Santiz Hernandez Family Weaving Cooperative, currently made up of three sisters, Marta, Lucia, and Apolonia, the workshop has been recognized in the book Grand Masters of Mexican Folk Art.
