Short Indigo Huipil with Cat Motif Embroidery – Nahualá, Guatemala, 1940s–50s

Winning Bid: $50.00

Item condition: Used

Description

A rare short huipil from Nahualá village, woven by artisans of the K’iche’ (Quiché) Maya ethnic group during the 1940s–1950s. Crafted from handwoven indigo-dyed cotton, this piece features vertical magenta striping and exquisitely embroidered stylized cat motifs in vivid hot pink thread across the chest and neckline. The compact form and bold color contrast highlight mid-20th-century Nahualá textile artistry. Some age-related wear consistent with its vintage character. Donated from the Collection of Beatrice Roberts.
