A remarkable handwoven silk textile from Houaphan Province, Laos, created by artisan Phout using village raised, hand reeled, naturally dyed silk. Woven entirely on a hand built loom, this extraordinary piece celebrates the richness of daily village life through intricate narrative imagery and traditional craftsmanship.
Named “Village Life Story Cloth,” the textile depicts scenes of community and cultural tradition, including pounding rice, reeling silk, spinning cotton, weaving, drinking Lao Hai (traditional fermented rice beer), rowing dragon boats during annual celebrations, praying, giving alms, riding bicycles, and many other moments of everyday life in rural Laos.
