Join WARP for our August Fireside Chat with Trisha Gupta! During our monthly Meet a Member program, we get to know a different WARP member each month.
Trisha Gupta is an interdisciplinary artist and art educator whose practice involves community outreach, collaboration, and preservation. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Washington University in St. Louis, with a primary focus on printmaking and drawing, and completed her Master’s of Fine Art through the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She specializes in the traditional heritage practices of Indian woodblock carving and natural dyeing, which she studied as an apprentice to master craftspeople in Ahmedabd through a scholarship opportunity several years ago. Localizing the process of woodblock carving into a format suitable for Western audiences has become a primary goal for her pursuits as an educator in order to preserve this practice in an authentic form for generations to come. Her curricula for Indian woodblock has been produced in workshops and formal classes with institutions such as Sandy Spring Museum, Smithsonian Associates, and KID Museum. The state of Maryland recognizes Trisha as a heritage artist for the exemplary level of rigor and authenticity she exhibits in her practice.
